Expansion and Renovation Project Update
Our building renovations and addition are well underway here at Maine Mountain Children’s House! Since the beginning of July, Peter Neal and his team have poured the foundation and the floor, broken through the basement walls, and have started framing the new addition! They’ve also removed the old siding and windows from our existing building, have started to strip the roof, and have begun indoor renovations including taking down walls, removing our old heating system, and are updating our electrical work. It’s been amazing to watch it all happen so quickly.
Meanwhile, some of our students and our staff are over at Kingfield Elementary School this summer so we can maintain consistent childcare for our MMCH families. Here at KES our days are full of playing with toys, creating artwork, and exploring amazing playground and gardens they have here. Pam Hinkley and her team have been supportive as we navigate using this new space for this short amount of time. We are very grateful to those who manage the facility and to Mrs. Fornier and Ms. Columbia for helping to make this happen for us and our MMCH families.
Our Board of Directors and fundraising team are working diligently to make sure our work at MMCH comes together in a timely manner and that we are able to raise the funds we need to make MMCH the best learning environment it can be. We have raised $325,000 through public and private granting entities; including the Sugarloaf Charitable Trust, the Davis Foundation, the Steven and Tabitha King foundation, and the Child Care Expansion grant through the State of Maine. In addition we have secured funding through Skowhegan Savings Bank, though we hope to draw from as little of that as possible.
